Overview

These are excerpts from an early shoot I conducted for Carté by Pasha, a fashion label based in Lahore, Pakistan. I photographed a model in three embroidered outfits across a terrace, a balcony and a garden walkway, then retouched the images in Photoshop. The work sits between editorial portraiture and product photography.

Challenge

The garments carry fine detail: gold thread and bead embroidery on sheer organza, paisley brocade trousers and heavily worked jackets. I needed images that read as relaxed fashion portraits while still showing that craftsmanship clearly, working with natural light and the locations on hand.

Approach

I kept the shoot outdoors and let daylight do most of the work. On the terrace and balcony, soft light brings out the gold embroidery against a pale beige kurta, and a wooden chair and railing give the model something to lean into for natural poses, including a back view that shows the embroidered neckline. For the green floral outfit I shot tighter with a shallow depth of field, so the embroidered sleeve and neckline stay sharp while the background falls away. For the red and gold jacket I used an arch of climbing plants as a natural frame.

Outcome

The set includes seven retouched images, both portrait and landscape, that show the collection in full-length, three-quarter and close-up views. They form a small editorial series suited to lookbook and social use for the label.
