Dynamic Range: Sculpture Tryptic and Workshop

Project OverviewThis title references the sonic term, “the range of acceptable or possible volumes of sound occurring in the course of a piece of music or a performance”. Select and explore a medium that you know and love; for example drawing, painting, sculpture, video/animation, installation, AR/VR, typography, sound, movement/performance or photography. You will share your expertise + teach us a thing or two, create a small series of work, and forecast the future of your medium. Dynamic Range at its core exists to expand your comfort zone and has four components:1. DYNAMIC MEDIA TRYPTIC - Present Eyeing the Future of the Medium Create a small trio of works in your selected medium that incorporate dynamic media in an engaging way that demonstrates a range of approaches. You are welcome to collaborate with your classmates on this series (one collaborative tryptic counts for both students).2. WORKSHOP - Past + Present of the MediumYou will design and run a workshop to teach fellow DMI classmates how to create a small project in your selected medium. The workshop must include an overview of the expected outcomes, materials needed, and intended deliverables. Your classmates’ work will be a deliverable with this project.3. DYNAMIC SPECULATIVE VERSION - The Future of the MediumDevelop a robust concept for a speculative version of your chosen medium. What does the future hold for your medium? What will it look like in the distant future? Create a 1-2 minute video abstract of how we will use this medium two generations from now. 4. CASE STUDY - Documenting Your Work & Vision Develop a 6-10 page case study delivered as a well-designed and considered PDF including your motivation, process, inspirations, references as well as reflections and documentation all components of your Dynamic Range project
